HOW DOES A BAIL BOND WORK?

A California bail bond is the amount of money needed to release a suspect from custody before their court dates. The suspect is released provided that they agree to fulfill their legal obligations (coming to all court dates and checking in with officials when needed). Because bail can be very expensive for the average person to pay, bail bonds companies like Merlin Bail Bonds can post the entire bail amount on behalf of detained suspects.

Usually a friend or family member will contact Merlin Bail Bonds or come into one of our many offices, but anyone can hire us to post bail. We can also visit anyone interested in co-signing a bail or anyone in detention already. Once we have assurances from either the suspect or their family members that they will fulfill their legal duties then we will post bail to the Jail and the suspect will be released.

Once released, the accused must show up to every court date in a timely manner and attend their trial. Once the trial is over the bail is repaid to Merlin Bail Bonds by the court, regardless of whether it is a guilty or not-guilty verdict. Our payment is usually only 10% of the bail amount but can be less on larger bonds. We never charge hidden fees or extra amounts for paperwork or any normal bonds posting activities.

If the accused does not fulfill their legal obligations then further fees are added to the 10%, especially if bounty hunters are involved. Because of these additional costs and because most people also have collateral used as a security Merlin Bail Bonds does not generally expect any additional fees to occur. Most people show up to their court dates and generally have a positive bail bonds experience.

Merlin Bail Bonds will ensure that the bail is handled professionally and as quickly as possible. Our goal is to help our clients spend as little time in jail as possible. The bail bond system is a unique set of rights accorded to all suspects in the state of California. In certain rare cases or unique crimes bail may be denied and the suspect will have to remain in jail until their trial, but this happens very infrequently. In most cases the jail will accept bail and begin the release process immediately.
